Diamond G Rodeo

(Steve and Cyndi Gilbert, Owners)

The Diamond G Rodeo breeding program is the result of passion, hard work, sweat &

tears all coming together. That hard work has created a unique set of genetics, producing

outstanding bucking bulls that have performed at the biggest PBR and PRCA events,

including the PBR World Finals and National Finals Rodeo.

In December of 1989, the seed sire for their breeding program, #183 Ricky, was

purchased from Sammy Andrews at the NFR Sale for what was then an unheard of amount

of $15,000! Although the Gilberts were told Ricky wasn’t able to breed, he went on to sire

more than 100 calves. The foundation that Ricky created is evident in the animals that

are in this sale today. Twenty years ago the initial cows were F1 cross heifers purchased in

Texas with a few other cows sprinkled in here and there.

The Gilberts started with six acres of land in Toquerville, Utah and 5000 acres of

cattle property, originally homesteaded by Cyndi’s grandparents, west of Cedar City,

Utah. With the seed cows, they used Ricky and Vee’s Own, both NFR bulls, as initial

sires. Detailed records were kept of the pedigree for each cow. Since then Diamond

“G” breeding program has grown to seven locations, 250,000 acres, 400 bulls, and

more than 300 cows and calves. Lessons have been learned—sometimes the hard

way. But the Gilberts are pleased with the resulting program that has provided quality

bucking bulls for the NFR from 1989—present. Some of the superstars include: Mr.

U.S.A., Wanna Dance, Orange Crush, Jr., Whirlygig, Charmed, I’m Sure, White Magic, and

others. In 2006, the Diamond “G” was proud to have become a part of the PBR Built

Ford Tough Series and several bulls were selected for the PBR World Finals that year.

C21 White Magic has been a contender for PBR World Champion Bucking Bull and even

today, continues to excite fans across the country.

Size has never been an issue to Diamond “G”. . . quality has. The females and bulls

presented here provide a range of over 20 years of breeding experience with a solid

track record that Diamond “G” is proud to offer. It’s our hope that we have provided an

opportunity to allow the breeder to take advantage of and build on our success!

Ricky had gone 309 trips unridden when Norman Curry rode him in the 10th Go of the 1990 NFR

for 94 points. Ten World Champions and a number of top cowboys including Jim Sharp, Clint

Branger, Michael Gaff ney, Darryl Mills, Cody Custer, Gilbert Carillo, Adam Carillo, Scott Mendes,

Tuff hedeman and Terry Don West were never able to conquer him. Ricky traveled from coast

to coast and sometimes had several outs per day. Ricky always showed the heart of a champion

and actively bucked in the PRCA until he was 15 years old. When he retired he had been selected

5 times to the NFR and was ridden only 7 times in almost 400 outs. On the date that he died,

March 23, 2000, 4 Ricky calves were born. Sire to Crush Boss, T-Bug, Big Dawg and Sakia.

Vee’s Own was one of those special bulls. he was purchased from Dell hall

and had a very successful career as a bucking bull. he was voted Reserve

PRCA Bucking Bull of the Year in 1992 and NFR Bucking Bull of the Finals

in 1991. he was twice marked by PRCA judges a perfect score of 25 points.

Daryl Mills was 92 points and Michael Gaff ney was 91 points on Vee’s Own.

he bucked off the late Brent Thurman, Clint Branger, Gilbert Carrillo, Jim

Sharp, Jerome Davis and Cody Custer. he was retired in 1999 to breed and

died on the Diamond G Ranch in 2001.

Crush Boss may be the rankest bull we’ve ever raised! he’s an own son of

the legendary Ricky and out of the elk dam, who gets her name because of

her enormous horns. Both Crush Boss and Wanna Dance are out of the same

dam. Crush Boss was injured after being ridden 8 of 37 career outs, before

becoming a breeding bull for the Diamond G. he’s the sire to White Magic,

Charmed, I’m Sure!, White Deception, Crush Boss III, Big Red Truck, Auzzie’s

Alley Cat.

White Magic is one of those accidents that has proven to be a blessing. he’s

double-bred with Ricky on both sides of his pedigree. he has heart, strength

and muscle, a lethal combination for a bucking bull! White Magic has been

selected to the NFR four times, the PBR World Finals 3 times and was nominated

for PBR World Champion Bucking Bull in 2007! Ridden only 5 of 92 career outs

with 5 scores of over 90 points. In 20 of 35 PBR outs he’s been marked over a

45 point bull score, 5 of those 47+ points and once a 48 point bull score. That’s

performance at it's finest!

Charmed, I’m Sure has been one of our favorites. Selected to perform at the

NFR four times and PBR World Finals twice. Ridden 13 of 95 career outs, 3

rides over 90 points. Average buck-off time is less than 3 seconds. Genetically

he’s a paternal half brother to White Magic out of a sister to Mr. USA, Simba,

Stevie Wievie and Mr. Malone.

Wanna Dance was really good for a long time. In his career, he was selected

to perform 5 times at the NFR and had a 70% buck-off rate. he was ridden

30 of 100 career outs, once for 93 points by Terry Don West. Wanna Dance is a

maternal brother to Crush Boss, the sire to White Magic! Wanna Dance is also

the sire to Square Dance, Let’s Dance and Wanna Dance, Too!

Whirlygig was selected to perform at the NFR 4 times and the PBR Finals . In

91 career outs, he was ridden 40 times. That’s a 56% buck-off rate. When he

was ridden, they’ve been 90+ points on him 12 times. his fi rst calf crop was

born in 2006 and there are 8 sons that will be bucking this summer. . . .They

buck! Sired by Kagee III from the Berger program.

Painted Desert bucked a lot like a bareback horse. . . . . .lots of kick and

not much spin! he was purchased to breed with because of his longhorn

infl uence to use on fi rst calf heifers. This experiment turned out to be a Gold

Mine! he’s the sire to NFR record-holder, Mr. USA, Mr. Malone (NFR), Stevie

Wievie (NFR) and Simba. All of these bulls have been used as herd sires in

the Diamond G program

Mr. USA has been a superstar from day one! he and Cody hancock teamed up

at the 2001 NFR to create the highest score in the bull riding at the NFR of 96

points. That record still stands today. Cowboys have been over 90+ points

on Mr. USA 10 times. In his 5 year career Mr. USA was selected for the NFR,

Copenhagen Cup Finals, Salt Lake City Olympics, the Dodge National Circuit

Finals and many other prestigious rodeos across the country. he is a paternal

brother to Simba, Stevie Wievie and Mr. Malone!

Simba is another of the superstars sired by Painted Desert. Simba teamed up

with PRCA World Champion, Blue Stone for a 95 point ride at the 2002 Salt

Lake City Olympics. Simba was marked 22+ points and ridden only 8 times in

28 career outs before injury forced him into retirement. he’s now considered

one of our marquee sires. Paternal brother to Mr. USA, Stevie Wievie and Mr.

Malone.

Stevie Wievie bucked along side his NFR record-holding brother, Mr. USA at

the 2002 NFR. Ridden only 5 of 26 times in the PRCA, once for 90.5 pts in

Salt Lake City 2003. Sire to We Be Strokin’, Big Bad Jake, Dream Stealer and

Dream Weaver. Retired for breeding in 2003. Paternal brother to Mr. USA,

Simba and Mr. Malone.

Mr. Malone is sired by Painted Desert, who is also the sire to Mr. USA, Stevie

Wievie and Simba. Mr. Malone was selected to perform at the 2001 NFR and

was ridden by Cory McFadden for second place go-round check. Mr. Malone

was ridden twice for 89 points by Lee Akin and Kelly Armstrong. Retired in

2003 for breeding. Sire to hocus Pocus.

T-Bug was special! Ridden only once in 82 trips, by Jesse Bail for 92 points

in San Bernardino, California! T-Bug was selected 3 times to the NFR and

remained unridden at the NFR by the top 15 PRCA bull riders in Las Vegas.

Retired in 2003 to breed until he died in 2008. Sire to T-Box and Big Tee and

to the dams of Whirlygig and Mr. USA!

Rulan’s Toy was another bull that was purchased from Sammy Andrews. he

bucked off Cody Lambert, Johnny Chavez, Ted Nuce, Scott Mendes, ervin

Williams and Wacey Cathey to name a few. You will fi nd Rulan’s Toy genetics

in the pedigrees of Crush Boss (sire to White Magic), Big Red Truck, Babe’s

Fireball and Wanna Dance, Too!

Orange Crush originated from harry Vold and goes back to the fi ghting bull

blood from the Vold Ranch that includes the world famous Crooked Nose!

Orange Crush was purchased by Diamond G to be used as a fi ghting bull and

after the Wrangler Bull Fights were discontinued he was tried as a bucker and

he was awesome. he’s also been a producer for the Diamond G having sired

Orange Crush, Jr and Crusher Time!

Stress Test was purchased from Sammy Andrews at the 1997 NFR Sale. he

was unridden in 40 outs including each time he appeared at the NFR. he

was consistently marked 23 plus points and was considered one of the RANK

ones! Cody Lambert deemed him dangerous and pulled him from the PBR

tour, but eventually allowed him to return. Only used one year to breed

(2000 calves).

McCarty Rose was another Berger bull that we purchased at the NFR Sale

in 1999. he was selected to perform at the NFR, the PBR World Finals and

PRCA Winter Tour Finale. Ridden only 7 times in 52 trips. Maternal brother

to Moody Blues.

Kagee III, aka Justin’s Pet was also purchased at the NFR Sale in 1995. Like

so many times, Joe Berger would always bring his best bulls to the NFR Sales

each year and we took advantage of those opportunities more than once.

Kagee III was selected to buck at the NFR and was consistently marked 22

points. Kagee III is the sire to Whirlygig!
